Spartacus: Blood and Sand

For quite some time, I have tried to convince Mark to watch Spartacus: Blood and Sand with me.  Finally, I just decided to watch it alone today, since it was on Netflix.  Overall, it was a good watch.  The series starts out pretty slow, not picking up until three or four episodes into the season.  Mark showed up from work around episode eight and was immediately hooked!
Aside from the incredibly slow opening episodes, the series only suffers a few minor problems.  It seems as if someone saw 300 and thought it was super cool.  It seems that person had enough money and influence to get a show made that emulates the visual aspects and setting.  The show fails when it attempts to ape visual aspects of 300.  Beheadings and blood come across as cartoony.  Additionally, Spartacus: Blood and Sand is not as deep as other premium cable shows.  Due to setting, comparisons to the HBO series Rome come naturally.  It is unfair to compare the two, as it is like apples and oranges.  These complaints should not keep you away from the show.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is an fun show that is pretty well done.  Once it hits its stride, the show becomes downright excellent.  If you have Netflix, take the time to watch a few episodes.  Keep in mind the first few are very slow moving, but I assure you it gets better!
